Boundaries outside

Lacrosse has 60-yard end lines. At each end, they are connected to 110-yard sidelines. A rectangle is formed by these two lines that mark the boundaries of the playing field. A player or ball crossing the field of play is deemed out of bounds and play is stopped.

Lacrosse Field Dimensions / Playing fields are divided into zones

A lacrosse field consists of four main zones:

  • Offensive Area
  • Defensive Area
  • Wing Areas
  • Midfield Area

Areas of offense and defense

There is a 40-yard wide by 35-yard long offensive and defensive area. An end line, a wing line, and a restraining line surround them.

The wing area

Wing areas, also known as alleys, run perpendicular to the center line about 10 yards from the sidelines. Their width is ten yards and they extend the entire length of the field.

Midfield Area

There are 40 yards of midfield and 60 yards of wide midfield. A restraining line and a sideline enclose it. A center line divides it. Each sideline is 30 yards away from the face-off X, which is located in the center of the center line.

Goal Area Dimensions

There are three components of the goal area: the frame and netting of the goal, the circle around the crease, and the extended markings along the goal line. A six-foot square goal frame is centered on the goal line, and it is six feet tall by six feet wide.

From the crossbar to the ground, the goal line is drawn vertically. A 20 yard longer restraining line separates the goal line from the end line. There is a space behind the goal between the goal line and the endline of 15 yards.

Stakes are driven into the ground seven feet behind the center of the goal line to support the goal netting attached to the goal frame. The net is shaped like a triangular part of a triangle. There is a 9-foot radius to the crease circle enclosing the goal area.

It refers to an imaginary line parallel to the goal line that extends 20 yards on either side of the goal line, running parallel to the end line.

Sideline Area Dimensions

There is a penalty box and substitution area on the sideline. There is a 20 yard length and a six yard width penalty box, which is bisected by a center line. The sideline and the timekeeper’s table, it is located between the field and the timekeeper’s table.

At each end of the penalty box are coaches’ and teams’ areas. On one side of the center line is the coaches area where coaches and coordinators can coach from the sidelines during lacrosse games.

A field lacrosse coach’s area must measure 15-20 yards in length according to official rules. Players who are injured or substituted during a game sit on the team bench. Coaches are located behind the sideline away from this area. Neither the coaches’ areas nor the team areas have official depths behind them.
